HIS 239 Modern E Asia
This course is a survey of major civilizations in East Asia, particularly China, Japan and Korea during the modern period since 1500. It covers pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial periods and analyzes those factors and forces - social, political, economic, cultural, and intellectual - that have constructed national and Asian identities in the past and affected their present and future possibilities.
