Human Resource Management - BS

Program Overview:

The Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management focuses on the knowledge, skills, and techniques used to attract, retain, and effectively manage human resources in organizations. Courses cover the fundamentals of employment law, human resource functions such as staffing, compensation and performance appraisal, and labor relations. Students are prepared to enter the fields of human resource management, labor relations, and general management.

Program Requirements:

The Human Resource Management major emphasizes building the verbal and written communication skills that are so important to success in the student's professional career. Throughout the program, students build a portfolio of coursework and presentations, thus developing their professional resume. The major requires all students to complete an approved internship or field-study option prior to graduation.

All Human Resource Management majors develop a comprehensive understanding in the various functional areas of business by completing the Human Resource Management Core Requirements.

Normally, once a student has matriculated in the Human Resource Management major at The College of Saint Rose, he or she must satisfy all remaining core and major requirements with Saint Rose courses.

Students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better in all courses required for the 61-credit Human Resource Management major.

The minimum credit requirement for the Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management at The College of Saint Rose is 122 credits, which consists of the following:

* Additional Liberal and General electives include non-professional courses that may or may not have Liberal Education designation. Courses taken in professional fields such as accounting, business, nursing, education, medical technology or engineering are generally not recognized as courses fulfilling this requirement. Students must consult with their advisors in selecting these courses. The number of credits required may be less than 8. The total number of credits for Liberal and General Education, including the 41 credits required by the College, should be no less than 49.
**The number of credits required may be less than 12. General Electives include any courses offered or accepted by The College of Saint Rose that can be applied toward the 122 credit hour graduation requirement.

Internship/Field Experiences/Study Abroad/Service:

A study abroad option is available to interested students who want to spend a semester at an approved college or university in another country. The approved courses taken will count toward the Business degree.

Suggested 4 Year Course Plan:

This suggested plan is designed to give students an idea of how to balance their coursework over 8 semesters and to graduate within 4 years. Most students will need to take a minimum of 30 credits each year in order to meet the graduation requirement of a minimum of 122 overall credits.  It should be used along with your Degree Works worksheet and in consultation with your faculty advisor. It is meant as a guide, not a definitive list of courses that must be taken as written. Your faculty advisor will help you make any necessary adjustments during advisement.

Admissions and Financial Aid Information:

The Undergraduate Admissions Office begins review of First-Year applications each fall in late September for the following Fall. Students are encouraged to submit a complete application as early as October. The Admissions Team will return a decision on complete applications within just three weeks. The College awards academic scholarships at the same time.
