CJS 481 Mock Trial 1

This course is for students who have been selected to participate on the Saint Rose National Mock Trial Association Competition team. Admission to the course is by professor's permission. Students enrolled in this course will engage in preparation for the National Mock Trial Association's competition which is held in February and March of the Spring semester. Each student will be a member of the College of Saint Rose mock trial team. Preparation for the national competition will involve mock trial practice under the supervision of an educational and trial coach with an emphasis on both the theory and practice of courtroom presentation of evidence, conducting direct and cross examinations, opening and closing statements to a jury and trial motion practice. Students will be called upon to learn the rolls of the attorneys as well as witnesses in a case designed for the competition by the National Mock Trial Association. The team will participate in at least one preliminary practice regional competition against other colleges and universities in the Northeast leading up to participation in the national elimination competition which will be held in the Spring semester. Students enrolled in this course must be willing to commit to registration in CJS 482 in the Spring semester. Both preliminary practice regional competitions and the national elimination competitions will require overnight travel to competition sites set by the regional organizers and the national mock trial organization. Enrollment in the Fall is limited to seven students all of whom must at least have attained full Sophomore status. Fall, Spring
