ECO 390 Structure of American Industry

The theme of the course is competition in the US economy.   The course will develop key ideas from industrial organization theories to understand the behavior of firms in the various structural environments of competition.  Students will learn the principle methods economists and government regulatory agencies use in measuring market power.  An important emphasis of the course is an empirical survey of the performance of some of our most active industries and the economic outcomes of competitive or imperfectly competitive markets in terms of efficiency and social welfare. Prerequisites:  ECO 251, ECO 352, and MATH 190
