AHI 295 Medieval Art

This course thematically examines medieval art produced between circa 300 and 1500, focusing primarily (but not exclusively) on art and architecture produced in Western Europe during this period. In addition to providing a familiarity with medieval art, this course will focus on the development of critical reading and thinking skills. Classes will consist of lectures, student presentations, and discussions in which students will be expected to actively participate in critical assessment and discussion of assigned scholarly texts. Students will also be encouraged to consider medieval approaches to art and more current ones. This course will require one all-day Saturday field trip, which is covered by the course fee. Pre-requisites: AHI 101, AHI 208 or permission of instructor.
