HIS 537 Topics in the Social History in the 20th Century West Africa

This course will be an exploration of recent scholarship in the social history of 20th century West Africa. Close attention will be directed to the new literature on the daily lives of ordinary men and women in their workplaces, communities and households. This course will be concerned with both the historical forces that helped to shape the lived experiences of people on the margins of society and the ways in which they have been active agents in making and representing their own histories.
