GCE 520 Global & Comparative Theories and Philosophies of Education

This course examines the diverse theoretical and philosophical views that have affected, and are affecting, educational policies and practices around the globe. In the context of studying theories of globalization, it explores questions about the purposes, ends, and means of education, with particular attention paid to the ways in which these may be driven by political, technological, economic, and cultural understandings of globalization. The course emphasizes the dialectic between the local and the global, especially in relation to the question, “What does it mean to be a reflective learner and change agent in an increasingly globalized world?” Co-requisite: GCE 510: Understanding Research in Global and Comparative Education. Fall.
