CSL 585 Community Mental Health Counseling and Psychopathology
This class is designed to expose students to methods and skills for counseling individuals who may be experiencing more serious psychological problems. Special emphasis will be given to the identification and treatment of psychological disorders across the life span. Students will become familiar with the DSM 5 classification and mental status evaluations. Research-based interventions for each disorder are discussed and integrative intervention strategies which include the neurobiology of psychopathology are stressed. Students are expected to apply treatment interventions and assessment to case presentations. Foundations of mental health counseling are reviewed including collaboration and consultation with other professionals. Prerequisite: CSL 500. Spring.
