CSL 510 Introduction School Counseling
This course will introduce students to the roles and responsibilities of school counselors. Students will be exposed to exemplary models of elementary, middle and secondary school counseling programs. Working with diverse children and their families in the context of academic, career and personal/social counseling in school settings will be reviewed. This course takes a systemic view of today's school counselor and looks at the contemporary roles of advocacy and leadership as well as the traditional roles of counseling, consultation, collaboration and referral. Topics to be covered include traditional models of school guidance, comprehensive developmental guidance programs; special programs and populations; and individual planning including career and transition planning. Eight hours of fieldwork are required. Fall
