CSL 553 Group Counseling & Dynamics

As counselors carry out their basic job responsibilities, they come into daily contact with a variety of group settings in which they may be in the role of group facilitator, group counselor, group member or consultant. The purposes of this course are to provide a theoretical understanding of group dynamics and group counseling as well as present techniques for the application of these principles to practical situations. Participation in an experiential small group is a voluntary and important component of the course. Students are also expected to visit a group in a school, community, or college setting and interview the group's facilitator about the group's format and purpose. Enrollment is limited to 12. Prerequisite: CSL 500. Fall, Spring, Summer
