AMS 211 Topics:American Aesthetics& Cultural Film
Focusing on film as an artistic and cultural production, this inquiry-based course explores the multiple forms that American identity takes, as represented in Hollywood movies, as well as in non-mainstream and international films. While learning the basics of film language and applying it to their reading of movies, students will be encouraged to think critically about how films respond to cultural processes, and how their aesthetics may reproduce or challenge past and current representations of specific communities, the nation, and it's place in the world scene.
