HIS 213 Fndtns of Europe:Antiq-Mid Age
This course surveys European history from ancient Rome through the Hundred Years War. Themes and topics include: rise and fall of the Roman Empire and its historical legacies, the emergence and spread of Christianity, establishment of the Church and papacy, monasticism and its contributions to western culture, the rise of Islam and its contributions to western culture, the Byzantine and Islamic Empires, Carolingian Europe, feudalism, the birth of universities and the liberal arts curriculum, and the origins modern political systems and sovereign states.
