HIS 372 American Dreams
In this course students analyze the historical conceptualization of the American Dream cross-culturally from the 19th through the 20th centuries by interpreting primary source materials and synthesizing scholarly publications. Students will learn how different ethnic groups and generations have articulated and critiqued the American Dream and the ways in which federal and state policies have shaped patterns of social and economic mobility by controlling access to resources, expanding consumer credit, and restricting citizenship. Departmental majors and minors only. Fulfills writing-intensive and diversity requirement. (L03)
