SWK 511 SWK in Healthcare Settings

Upon completion of this course students will understand the role of the social worker within health care settings and the methods by which social workers take on leadership roles within the interdisciplinary treatment team. Students will be able to articulate the methods by which social workers in health care provide individual, couple, group and family counseling, crisis intervention, patient/family education, resource referral and advocacy, in inpatient and outpatient settings. Particular focus on the means by which social workers provide both psychosocial care and other services to the patient and family will be discussed. The social worker's role as an advocate for the patient and the related conflicts in perspective between team members will also be examined.
