BIO 105 Human Heredity

A course for non-majors which presents principles of genetics as applied to inheritance in humans. Students will: (1) gain an understanding of the complexities of modern genetics including the inheritance of genetic diseases, the effects of environmental agents on genetic material, the legal issues of human genetics, and the role of genetics in personalized medicine; (2) discuss the research techniques of genetic scientists; (3) use the primary research literature of genetics; (4) discuss ethical issues related to genetic research/discoveries; and (5) present scientific ideas related to genetics in an informal setting. BIO 105L Laboratory required. (L09) Offered as needed.
