HLA 520 Leadership in Higher Education
This 3 credit graduate course is designed to closely examine the concept of leadership and its importance of defining organizational success, in the setting of higher education institutions. The course, required of all degree candidates will be taught in a 'hybrid' format with a mix of regular class meetings, an independent portfolio and case report submissions using Blackboard (online learning tool). The course will focus on the following: (1) In-depth discussion of assigned readings; (2) case discussions and analysis based on critical application of theories and concepts; and (3) self-reflection supporting each student's professional development as a potential leader in the higher education environment whether institutionally-based or outside the institutional environment; whether in a policymaking or operational role.
