SOC 113 Cultural Diversity

This course focuses on issues of cultural diversity in modern multi-cultural society and the fault lines generated by these colliding worlds of culture provide critical challenges both to the country as a whole as people who routinely deal intimately with people of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds. Through the understanding the histories, norms, family values, language patterns and aspirations of the different cultural, racial, and ethnic groups that create cultural diversity are necessary but not sufficient to develop cultural competency. This course does include such study as a foundation and background, but attempts to move beyond a passive study to a more active experience of how diversity impacts our lives directly both personally and professionally. Offered as Needed.
