SED 225 Includ Stud w/Disabilities
Throughout this course, candidates will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to facilitate the successful inclusion of students with exceptional needs in their classrooms. Content will focus on specific, legal procedures and policies mandated by New York State, as well as the roles and responsibilities of general educators as related to pre-referral interventions, implementation of the Individualized Educational Plan, and the collaboration and teaming necessary to accomplish these. Candidates will develop an understanding of the variation within and across disability categories, the impact of disability on student performance, as well as the various adaptations, accommodations, modifications and supports they can provide to students to promote success in the general education curriculum. Candidates will research, describe, define and implement specific evidence-based resources and strategies utilized to support students with disabilities in the general education setting. It is recommended that candidates take this course concurrently with an instructional methods or curriculum course in their field of study. Required course for Childhood Education, Art Education, Music Education and Technology Education Majors. A 15-hour supervised field experience is required for this course. Fall, Spring
