PED 131 Educational Hiking

Introduction to hiking opportunities in the capital district. Class will visit 4-6 sites at least twice. One visit will be an introduction to the site: personnel, visitor center, programs offered to general public and/or site management issues. Another visit will include hiking the trails, using guide books, trail markers, and equipment supplied by the site. Where appropriate, some collecting will be done. Emphasis is on integrating the physical benefits and mental enjoyment of hiking New York. A partial list of topics to be discussed are biology, geology, and environmental science.(L12)
