ART 375 Art Curriculum and Assessment
In this companion course to ART 374, students will be introduced to thinking and planning processes that ensure the creation of high quality curricula in art. Though emphasis will be placed on Visual Arts learning standards, all standards areas will be explored at Pk-9 grade levels to encourage interdisciplinary as well as disciplinary approaches to teaching art, in developmentally appropriate ways. Via development of a practice unit, students will be introduced to the roles of contextual research, cultural sensitivity, art criticism, aesthetic awareness, media exploration, visual learning supports, and formative and summative assessment in the formation of lesson plans. Other course topics include Academic Language in the art classroom, and the role and variety of tools/processes appropriate for assessing learning in art. Later during the semester, students will participate in a supervised after school field experience in a diverse school setting. Materials fee. Prerequisites: ART 275, EPY 244. Recommended that students take EPY 350 prior to or during the same semester as ART 375. Spring
