ART 201 Art and Learning
An introduction to looking at and learning from visual artworks, an essential tool for elementary education majors who wish to use the power of art to motivate and deepen student engagement; enrich ELA, math, social studies, and science curricula; and expand their repertoire of teaching strategies in preparation for edTPA. Education degree candidates will participate in drawing and designing activities to develop their own perceptual and visual problem-solving abilities; and collaborate in critical/interpretive thinking activities such critiques and visual analysis; then learn how to apply these strategies in classroom settings. Designed for Pre-K through Middle level education majors, as well as Music Education and Special Education majors. Also useful for Communication Disorders and Social Work majors. Interested others may apply for permission to attend from the instructor. Though recommended for students who have already taken curriculum development coursework in their major area, this course is particularly beneficial to those students preparing for their student teaching experience.
