EDA 601 District Level Leadership & Management
Co-requisites EDA 601 and EDA 602 must be taken together. Although shown as separate courses, the 601 and 602 courses will be taught as co-requisites in a single term as a six-credit experience. Classes will be offered at various locations and in varying time frames that may include weekend full-day experiences, evening classes, and weekday visits to different locations in the local region. Students will participate in a total of seventy-five (75) hours of in-class experience. In addition, students will be expected to complete two individual and two group projects that will require a significant outside-of-class time commitment. Required for School District Leadership certificate program; see detailed course descriptions for EDA 601 and 602 below. The emphasis of the course is on leadership and management of a school district. Upon completion, students will acquire the knowledge, dispositions and skills necessary to perform the functions of the chief executive officer and instructional leader of a school district. Case studies covering the full spectrum of challenges faced by school district leaders, with special emphasis on issues of diversity, community/parent relations, communications and team building, and school district culture and climate, will be an integral part of the course. There will be a special focus on the creation and implementation of vision/mission, cultural identity and organizational change through leadership skills and practices and motivational strategies.
